July 30 blog

53 miles

2,298 miles so far

Our plan for today was to ride straight to a bike shop in Minneapolis which would have been about 68 miles. Minnesota, and Minneapolis in particular, is very bike friendly with bike lanes and bike trails, many “rail trails,” throughout and around the city. In fact, almost all of our ride today followed bike trails, including the Luce Line Trail and the Dakota Trail. We stopped in Laketown for lunch and met two men who took an interest in our tour. One of the men, Bill, who I’ve named “Dakota Bill,” is an avid cyclist and suggested that we continue on the trail and take a different route, through his hometown of Wayzata, to Minneapolis.

As we rolled onto the main street of Wayzata on the lake and saw the buzz of activity along the boardwalk and the people stepping off there boats to stop into the many restaurants, we decided to stop and call it a day! I was sure we wouldn’t find anything nicer than this today. Minneapolis can wait.

We found a room at Hotel Landing, had dinner at a nice Italian restaurant called Josefina, and enjoyed relaxing along the waterfront.

One of several bike trails we rode on our way to Wayzata

Lots of farms and cornfields

Amenities along the bike trail!

Welcome to Wayzata, MN!
