56 miles
4,015 miles (including the few extra recorded rides to dinner, laundromats, etc.)…many more unrecorded!
This is it, the grand finale ride into Portland!
We had a very nice breakfast at the White Gables Inn and we were off..excited about our last day.
We were off the ACA route now, so we needed to plot our own course to Portland. After consulting with a few locals, we decided that the best plan was to ride Rt 302 all the way in. Unfortunately, it was a rough final ride for our tour, as it was a busy road, very hilly, and sections with little or no shoulder. It also made for a noisy ride. But, it was still exhilarating, and we tried to savor the final miles of our tour.
As we approached Portland, we were able to take a nice bike trail which routed us through the north side of Portland to East End Beach where we declared our tour “finished” and marked the end with a photo of our bikes and our bare feet in the refreshing water of Portland Harbor!
