Our daughters, Meghan and Kathleen, drove us out to Astoria today. We got a nice preview of HW30, the ACA route we were planning to take back to Portland. The plan was to stop at Clatskanie for the night and ride to Portland the next morning. Meanwhile, Meghan’s boyfriend, Mack, rode a slightly longer (113 mile) alternate route following HW 202 out to Astoria from Portland to meet us for an early dinner at The Fort George Brewery. Based upon Mack’s recap, we decided to take his route to Portland which promised to be a more scenic ride with less traffic! A longer first day (63 miles vs our original plan of about 40 miles) and two big climbs would be the trade off.
