Day 31: Rest Day in Ten Sleep, WY

July 7 Blog

We started our day with an amazing home cooked breakfast at The Carter Inn prepared by the owners, Christa and Kenny. Breakfast included coffee, oatmeal, chia pudding, seasoned scrambled eggs with homemade chimichurri sauce, sausage, freshly baked sourdough bread and lemon-blueberry breakfast cake as well as homemade jams. I know I’m missing a few things, but it was all delicious! For the record, that’s just what was available; I didn’t eat all of that for breakfast…just most of it! Actually, between us we did eat all of that!

Breakfast was served at a community table which fostered great conversation with other guests and our hosts. One couple was visiting from Wisconsin. After reviewing our route, they told us that we would be enjoying some great bike trails as we traveled through Wisconsin. Evidently, Wisconsin is the most bike-friendly state after Oregon.

If you’re ever in Ten Sleep, we would highly recommend a stay at The Carter Inn with its recently renovated rooms and charming Western themed decor.

After breakfast we took a short bike ride up the road to the Ten Sleep RV Park and Campground to do our laundry. On site was the Horse Hotel, where campers can board their horses, as well as a resident saddle maker named Clint Beasley. We visited his shop and saw some of his work - he is truly an artist. He told us that he is self-taught and his custom-made saddles can be found as far away as Australia. He has even made custom leather seats for motorcycles.

We also visited the Ten Sleep Brewing Company which sits at the foot of a “Cloverly Cretaceous” hillside - in other words red rock like you see in Sedona, AZ. At least that’s what the sign said! The beer was delicious and the setting was awe-inspiring.

We will have dinner at the Sleeping Coyote Cafe again, as it’s convenient and was good the first time. Our plan is to pack up tonight and have another Carter Inn breakfast before tackling the mountains in the morning.
