Day 51: Murdo, SD to Kennebec, SD

July 20, 2023

43 miles

1,865 miles so far

Our destination today was Kennebec, SD which was the next town along the ACA Parks, Peaks and Prairies route that had lodging. It would be a shorter day which we definitely appreciated. The route was pretty straightforward following Old HW 16, a two-lane frontage road essentially to HW 90. It had no shoulders, but the traffic was pretty light.

The only thing of note for today was that we seemed to leave the plague of grasshoppers behind.

In Kennebec we stayed at the Kings Inn Motel which is owned by a very nice young family with three adorable little girls and three friendly dogs who greeted us when we arrived. The motel was simple but very clean.

We dined at the Prairie Dust Bar which was right across the street where I enjoyed a cold Guinness and walleye fish and chips! Sharon sampled the ubiquitous beef chislic, essentially deep fried pieces of steak, paired with a mini bottle of Sutter Cabernet Sauvignon.
