We decided to take a rest day in Marshal to avoid riding in the high temperatures predicted for the next day. According to the weather reports, the heat dome was supposed to break the following evening.

After breakfast at the Sleep Inn, we had a few objectives for the day. First, visit the local bike shop to fix my rubbing/squeaking front wheel or brake. Second, ship our camping gear back, since we seem determined not to camp, and finally, buy a foam roller to work on my quads!

We visited “The Bike Shop” where the owner, Chad, fixed my front wheel issue - evidently it just wasn’t completely seated. All he did was loosen the quick release, and the wheel slid right into place. He also noted that our chains and rear cassettes were worn and needed to be replaced. As he didn’t have the parts, we would plan to call ahead to a bike shop in Minneapolis.

We successfully packed up our camp gear which weighed 15 pounds in total. We decided to keep the mini camp stove, pot, cup and sporks, as we sometimes have to make our coffee and meals in the smaller towns.

Finally, I rode to Walmart which wasn’t too far and managed to get a very light, 18 inch foam roller which I will plan to strap to my rear rack.

We had lunch at the Mainstay Cafe while we waited for Chad to look at our bikes , and just ate our grocery store frozen food dinners in our room.

All in all a restful, yet productive day!
