Day 58: Bellview, MN to Hutchinson, MN

July 29, 2023

65 miles

2,245 miles so far

This morning we watched the sun coming up as we pulled out of Iverson’s Tree Farm. Today’s route was relatively flat on paved roads. We’ve come to find that most of the paved country roads in Minnesota have large cracks every every 10 to 20 feet. It makes for a very jarring ride!

About half way we stopped at Broaster’s for brunch. While we had eggs, I noticed that “broasted chicken” was on the menu. While I had seen it on several menus before, I was not familiar with the term broasted. So, according to Google…

“Broasting is a special cooking process that combines pressure frying and traditional shallow frying to produce juicy chunks of fried chicken with a crispy outer layer. The process begins by marinating the chicken in spices and seasonings before placing it in a sealed pressure cooker containing hot oil.”

Hutchinson was a nice little town but our stay was a little disappointing. We stayed at an AmericInn in Hutchinson. We’ve stayed in several now - this was not their best. The room was very musty and smelled of mildew - kind of like a wet sock!

Sharon had read about a steak restaurant that was supposed to be very good; however, when we got there we found out that were just serving a prime rib and crab buffet for $60 a person.🙁 We should have stuck with the prime rib special - instead we ended up with powdered mash potatoes and a frozen walleye fish stick a few doors down!
