23 miles

2,321 miles so far

Given our stop in Wayzata, our ride into Minneapolis would be a short one. Our plan was to ride directly to a bike shop where we hoped they could replace our chains and rear cassettes.

We were able to ride several bike trails including the Cedar Lake Trail, the Hiawatha Trail and the Minneapolis Greenway all the way into the city.

Along the trail we met Bob from Reno. He was originally from Minneapolis and was in town visiting his daughter and grandchildren. We happened to catch him on a planned 40 mile bike ride. He was interested in talking, as he had previously ridden across America following the Northern Tier route. When we told him we were heading to Freewheel bike shop, he insisted on showing us the way - he literally escorted us to the front door and took us on an alternate route through some beautiful lakeside neighborhoods along the way. Good Samaritan of the day!!

The folks at Freewheel were kind enough to repair our bikes while we waited, and we were on our way. We enjoyed a beautiful ride on West River Road along the Mississippi River to our Element hotel just beside the Twin’s Stadium.

We ended the day with cocktails and dinner at a very cool Korean/Mexican fusion restaurant called Sooki and Mimi’s. Tomorrow we planned to take a rest day and explore Minneapolis a little.
