Day 61 - Minneapolis, MN to St. Croix Falls, MN

Aug 2 blog

62 miles

2,393 miles so far

Today’s route took us out of the city eastward through North St. Paul. Again, we had a beautiful ride from Minneapolis along the Mississippi River on West River Road as we made our away across town. We crossed the river at Franklin Bridge into an area called Dinkytown, and from there we began weaving our way to St. Paul.

We eventually made it onto the Gateway State Trail, yet another wonderful bike rail trail, which provided us with about 10 miles of relief from the roads in the middle of our ride.

We crossed into Wisconsin at Osceola where we stopped for lunch at the Watershed Cafe. It was a quaint little town along the river and waterfalls, and yet despite the sign inviting us to “linger,” we were back on our bikes for the final 10-mile stretch to St. Croix Falls. Google again misled us at the end of the day, when we plugged our hotel address into maps. We cycled on tired legs up a hill to a “trail”. This turned out to be stairs ascending up a steep dirt hill. 😵‍💫. Sharon managed to find an alternative route through a short stretch of woods and another uphill dirt road. We finally made it to the hotel about fifteen minutes later.
