41 miles

2,434 miles so far

Today was a shorter day but we continued to progress on our northeastern trek across Wisconsin. It was a sunny, hot day with temperatures in the upper 80s. We passed many farms and lakes and ended our day in Cumberland, the “Island City” which is essentially a peninsula surrounded by Beaver Dam Lake.

We stayed in the Island City Motel just past town up a hill. The skies were darkening with storm clouds which was concerning, as we were hungry and planned to ride down that hill to Louie’s on the Lake for dinner. We decided to make a break for it and pulled up to Louie’s just as the skies opened up. It moved through quickly though, so the only challenge we had after dinner was riding back up that hill with a full stomach!

After dinner I went to work on my bike trying to adjust my gears, as they hadn’t been shifting very smoothly since having the rear cassette replaced. I tried working in the rear parking lot under the lights but unfortunately the mosquitoes began to go to work on me. So I had to turn our small motel room into my bike shop and managed not to get too much grease on the carpet..oops.
