Day 83: Pulaski, NY to Boonville, NY

Aug 28 blog

49 miles

3,595 miles so far

We had read that the hills would pick up heading East from Lake Ontario, and today did not disappoint! Today’s ride would be about 49 miles and over 4,400 feet of ascent.

We had a very quick and light breakfast at the Super8 and got on our way. We stopped along the way for a late second roadside breakfast/brunch. While we were eating, suddenly a beautiful and very friendly Husky dog appeared alongside us. The road was heavily wooded with very few houses. While she had a tag, it had no telephone number, and it was unclear where she lived.

When we packed up our bikes and began to ride down the road, our new found friend seemed determined to come along. She followed us for over a mile, picking up her pace as we accelerated hoping she’d lose interest. We were so concerned that she’d be hit, as she was running right down the middle of the road. And, while there were few cars, when they came, they came fast, and the road was twisting with many blind turns. We eventually lost sight of her and only hope she made it home safely!

We didn’t stop for lunch, so by the time we rolled into Boonville, we were starving. We checked into the Lodge at Headwaters and quickly headed out to the Boonville Hotel for dinner.
